Once you have reached the end of your viewing population of photos, you can then filter for all those tagged, or not tagged if you want and move the photos to their own folder, collection, or category. select one or more photos for inclusion in a group) as you work through them sequentially. With ACDSee the backward slash is what you use to 'tag' photos (i.e. Just installed Zoner 18, but it asked me also for an account when I tried to lauch the program, I find that very frustrating, very rare a program does that, impossible to test it without creating an account first :/ my quest is not an easy one as Glen pointed out, it will be difficult for me to find a replacement.įor now I am not sure if I should stay with "old" Picasa since I have a lot of albums there (13 years I have been using it now !!), really sorry Google decided to gave up on it. I like to explore new software that's why I started this topic. Thanks everyone for all your anwsers, I hope it helps other people too !! When a good deal came up for Zoner 17, I made the change. The program worked fine on my laptop but I wanted something that would work on both. It seemed to be a specific problem with my system as no one else (as far as I and Studioline's support could determine) experienced the same thing. For some reason Studioline locked up on my Windows 7 system. What made you make the change from Studioline to Zoner ? I used to use this but switched to Zoner. If you can find an older version (17 or 18), I'd recommend you give it a try.Īnother one you could consider is Studioline Photo Classic. I would have recommended Zoner Photo Studio but they've moved to an annual subscription model with the latest version, which is unfortunate (It doesn't store images on their server, by the way, images remain on your local computer). Not sure what is the procedure to achieve what I want which is categorizing by picture by theme or people. Do you have any idea if I made a mistake maybe it can be something else there ? Collection ? Label ? So coming from Picasa maybe the term "album" is confusing. I wanted then to add some of these pictures in a thematic album and tried to create a new album and put them inside but it moved them physically on the computer too and created a folder with the album name ! :/ Something that confused me is : I imported my pictures that were put in an "Album" with all folders and subfolders in it. They say it takes some time so I will give it a try and keep you updated. It seems much slower than Acdsee for displaying thumbs, but on the other hand they do have a timeline (like Picasa) nicely done with a calendar. It is an open source software (just for information for other people)įirst impressions. Since I already tried LIghtroom, I thought of trying digiKam right now. Also, the standard import and catalog settings are woefully inadequate in many circumstances, leading to sluggish performance. Lightroom can do it, but it takes some work. I installed both softwares but they start by asking an online account, I am afraid they upload photos to their servers without consent and again this is not what I look for, I just need to organize my pictures locally, no need of cloud storage, Raw processing or anything like that.Īnychance you know about other software I could try to achieve that ? I don't know how to explain why, maybe was too powerful for what I was looking forĢ) Acdsee 10: Seemed good at first because pictures would load very fast, but couldn't group easily pictures as album (I used to press CTRL or SHIFT to select which didn't work here :/) + they don't have face recognition wich I liked very much on Picasa. I didn't want to use their new Google Photos since I don't want to upload my pictures in the cloud but organize them locally on my computer.ġ) Adobe Lightroom: didn't work for me. I have had some problems in the past with Picasa crashings and loosing some database so trying a new software could seem the logical path now since Google decided to abandon it. Since Google announced the end of Picasa I was looking to try an alternative software for making a database with my pictures collection. I was using Google's Picasa to browse my pictures, tag them, organize them as albums, group people with face recognition, export them etc.
